MEETING - April 17th

April, and the change in the weather that it brings; time to put away the heavier english blends of winter and begin to enjoy the lighter tobaccos of summer. What better time to try out the pipes and blends of Julius Vesz.

Our own Jerry Crisswell (right) has become friends with Julius and a number of his pipes. So Jerry was happy to arrange a viewing of Vesz pipes at our meeting

The two images below are representative of the pipes we had the opportunity to review. At the bottom of this page are several more detailed views of several Vesz pipes.

Jerry and Cam Schutte talked of their visits to Julius Vesz's workshop. They showed pictures of the inner sanctum that Julius refers to as a museum, It was really quite astounding how an active pipe workshop could hold such traesures. Carpeted floors too!

Jerry brought a video setup and we viwed an tape of Julius discussing pipe making and pipes in general.

Mike and Mary McNiel heard of our Vesz trunk show and were kind enough to bring samples of several of the Julius Vesz Tobaccos that McClellands blends and packages for him.

Lower left is a cavendish blend and to the right is his virginia flake. I can attest that the virgina is a nice smooth sweet blend!

The club members had their usual good time, sitting around swapping tales of the search for the perfect pipe. Telling each other that, since it soooo easy and soooo little work, they were going to quit their jobs, retire and make pipes for fun and profit!

If Julius could do it - make pipes and talk with friends all day, well then so could they. After all, their house already had the carpet!

Examples of the pipes Quinton Wells has in process. (I've seen Quintons workshop. It is definitly NOT carpeted)

Others just have pipes given to them
such as this beauty Bob Oswald was pleased to show off

On the whole, the group had an enjoyable evening.

Here are the more detailed views of some Vesz Pipes I promised you.
